OUYA, the Android based games console, looks to be a runaway hit even before it has been developed.
The Google Android based console was just in the news yesterday looking for startup funding, but today the hardware is a serious contender with $2.5m in financial backing.
That backing has come from users of Kickstarter, the crowdsourcing funding web site that will launch in the UK this Autumn. Perhaps tempting investors are the sweeteners that are being offered to early investors.
For as little as $100 you can get a free console when it launches, and for just over $200 you can get one with your username etched onto it. Elite donors, those that cough up $1337 or more, get the most Ouya goodness, including a special email address that keeps them solidly in the loop about the hardware and its progress.
Of course people are welcome to pledge more cash, up to $5,000 if they fancy a plush sleepover in San Franscisco for example, and that's just fine.
They might find that their cash is not needed however, as the pledged total presently stands at $2,552,811, with just over 20 thousand backers.
